CCHI (Council of Health Insurance)

The CCHI (Council of Health Insurance) is the Saudi regulator that supervises cooperative health insurance and requires a valid, compliant policy for every expatriate before an Iqama can be issued or renewed.

The Council of Health Insurance (CCHI), historically known as the Council of Cooperative Health Insurance, is the Saudi government body that regulates the mandatory health-insurance market for private-sector employees and expatriates. It sets the minimum benefits, accredits insurers and providers, and runs the electronic platform that links insurance status to a person's Iqama.

A valid CCHI-compliant policy is a precondition for issuing and renewing the Iqama, so a lapsed or non-compliant policy can block residence transactions until it is fixed. The employer (sponsor) is normally responsible for arranging and paying for the cover, and the level of benefits is tied to the insured person's class.

If your insurance shows as inactive when you try to renew, the issue usually sits with the employer's policy or the insurer's upload to the CCHI system rather than with the resident directly.
