The Emirates ID is the compulsory identity card issued by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) to all UAE nationals and residents. It carries a unique 15-digit identity number, the holder's biometric data, and the residence-visa validity.
The card is tied to the residence visa and is renewed alongside it. A late renewal accrues a daily fine after a grace period, and an expired or missing Emirates ID can block banking, telecom, medical, and travel transactions. Lost or damaged cards can be replaced, and renewals can be started up to six months before expiry.
