Medical Fitness Test

The UAE medical fitness test is a mandatory health screening that residence-visa applicants must pass before their visa is issued. It typically includes a blood test and chest X-ray to check for specified communicable diseases.

The medical fitness test is a required step in obtaining or renewing a UAE residence visa for most expatriate adults. Carried out at government-approved medical centres, it usually involves a blood test and a chest X-ray to screen for certain communicable diseases as defined by the health authorities.

The result is recorded as 'fit' or 'unfit'. A 'fit' result lets the visa process continue toward Emirates ID and stamping, while an 'unfit' result for specified conditions can affect the visa outcome and may have further procedures or options depending on the condition and the applicant's circumstances. Some categories and age groups have different testing requirements.

Test scope, fees, and the list of screened conditions are set by the relevant emirate's health authority and can change, so applicants should confirm the current requirements and approved centres. The medical is usually done after the entry permit or status change and before visa stamping.
