The Oman Resident Card is the official identity card issued to foreign nationals who hold a valid residence permit in Oman. It carries the holder's civil number and identity details and serves as the day-to-day ID for expatriates, much as the Iqama or Emirates ID do in neighbouring countries.
The card is issued and renewed by the Directorate General of Civil Status under the Royal Oman Police (ROP), and its validity is tied to the residence permit and, for workers, the underlying employment. An expired card and lapsed residence status can block transactions and lead to overstay fines, so renewal should be handled before expiry.
The Resident Card is needed to open bank accounts, sign contracts, register vehicles, and complete most government services. Many related steps are now handled through ROP online channels.
