ROP (Royal Oman Police)

The ROP is the Royal Oman Police, the authority responsible for immigration, residence permits, civil status, and traffic matters in Oman. Expatriates deal with the ROP for visas, resident cards, and vehicle registration.

The Royal Oman Police (ROP) is the national police force of Oman, and its remit extends well beyond policing to include immigration, passports, residence permits, civil status, customs, and traffic and vehicle registration. For expatriates, the ROP is the central authority for entry visas, residence permits, and the Oman Resident Card.

The ROP's Directorate General of Passports and Residence handles visa and residency processes, while its civil-status and traffic directorates manage civil numbers and vehicle matters. Many of these services are available through the ROP's online portal and app, reducing the need to attend stations in person.

Because so many expatriate processes route through one body, the ROP is the natural reference point for visa status checks, residence-permit renewals, exit formalities, and traffic fines in Oman.
