The Qatar ID (QID) is the identity card and residence permit issued by the Qatari Ministry of Interior to citizens and residents. For expatriates it doubles as the residence permit (RP), tying the holder to a sponsor and a validity period that must be renewed.
The QID is needed for opening bank accounts, signing contracts, accessing healthcare, and most government services. Residents manage and check QID status through the Metrash2 app and the MOI portal, and a lapsed QID can block transactions and trigger fines.
