Salik (Arabic for 'clear' or 'open') is the electronic toll-collection system used on Dubai's roads. Tolls are charged automatically when a vehicle passes under a Salik gate, with no need to stop, using a tag or plate-recognition linked to a prepaid account.
Vehicle owners maintain a Salik account that is topped up in advance, and charges are deducted per gate crossing. Unpaid or insufficient balances can lead to penalties, and outstanding Salik amounts may need to be cleared before renewing the vehicle's Mulkiya registration.
Toll amounts per crossing and any pricing rules are set by the operator and can change, so check the official Salik channels for current fees and account management.
