Yes. Riffa-Buhair is one of the few LMRA branches open six days a week, from 08:00 to 20:00 Saturday through Thursday. Friday is the only closed day, in line with Bahrain's Friday weekend rest. The Saturday opening is the main reason Southern Governorate residents and PROs use this branch — it is the only LMRA counter where you can run errands on a non-government weekday. Saturday morning between 09:00 and 11:00 is the heaviest slot of the week because workers and employers who could not attend during the week front-load the queue.

No formal prayer break during normal months — staff rotate to keep counters open. During Ramadan the schedule splits into morning (around 09:00-15:00) and a late evening session (around 21:00-00:30) to accommodate Iftar, and the building is closed during the Iftar window itself. Individual counters may briefly pause for the Asr or Maghrib prayer when a single officer is on duty; tokens already issued remain valid and the queue resumes within minutes. Check the digital display rather than re-taking a token.

Bring the worker's original passport and CPR card if previously issued. For employer-side transactions, the PRO or authorised representative must bring their own CPR and an authorisation letter on company letterhead or a notarised power of attorney. For domestic-worker permits the Bahraini household head must attend personally with their original CPR; a representative cannot substitute. Dependants attending for biometric capture bring their original passport plus the attested marriage or birth certificate that established the dependency relationship.

Late renewal incurs a penalty of about BHD 10 per month overdue, plus continued monthly LMRA and SEHATI fees during the lapse. Buhair will process the renewal at the counter but only after the cashier collects all penalties and arrears. If the permit has been expired more than 30 days a fresh issuance may be required rather than a renewal, which means a new biometric and contract. Workers who departed Bahrain during the lapse may need a fresh entry permit instead — the counter officer will route the case accordingly when the file is opened.

Commercial workers sponsored by a Bahraini company pay BHD 5 per worker per month in LMRA fees and BHD 5 per month SEHATI, billed upfront for the permit duration. Registered (flexi) workers pay BHD 195 per year plus BHD 5 admin and self-fund SEHATI. Domestic workers in Bahraini households cost the employer roughly BHD 172 per year all-in. Dependants pay BHD 60 per year per dependant in advance. Late renewal adds BHD 10 per month. It depends on the transaction. Routine renewals can be filed by a PRO with an authorisation letter; the sponsor does not need to attend. New commercial issuance requires the worker in person but the sponsor can be represented. Sponsorship transfers between commercial CRs require both releasing and receiving sponsors (or their authorised representatives) to attend together with the worker. Domestic-worker permits require the Bahraini household head to attend personally — a representative is not accepted, because identity verification of the Bahraini sponsor is a statutory step.

The CPR is an iGA product, not LMRA, so it is not produced at Buhair. Once the work permit is issued here and the residence sticker generated, the iGA system queues the card for printing. The default delivery is Bahrain Post to the address registered on Bahrain.bh, with an SMS notification when the card is in transit. If postal delivery is not chosen, collection is from an iGA Identity Card Service Centre — typically Isa Town or Seef Mall. The LMRA permit card itself is printed at Buhair the same day and handed over at the counter.

LMRA Buhair handles the labour-market side: work permits, employer fees, flexi permits, dependant permits, and the residence stamp that comes attached to a work permit. NPRA, under the Ministry of Interior, handles passports for Bahrainis, visit visas, entry permits and residence for direct family members above 24 who do not qualify for LMRA dependant permits, plus general immigration matters. A normal expatriate worker rarely visits NPRA except for visit visas for parents. Customers often confuse the two, particularly when bringing parents for residence — that is NPRA's remit, not LMRA's.

New domestic permits and new commercial issuance still need a Buhair (or other branch) visit because of the in-person verification step that no online channel can perform.

Yes. All counter officers at Buhair work in Arabic and English, and the digital displays, smart kiosks and printed tokens are bilingual. Many staff also speak Hindi, Urdu, Malayalam or Tagalog as a courtesy because of the customer mix, but this is informal. Bengali, Nepali and Tamil customers often bring a friend or PRO who can translate complex steps. Written documents must be in Arabic or English; an LMRA-approved translation office can certify translations from other languages — a list is available at reception.

During Ramadan, Buhair operates a split schedule of roughly 09:00-15:00 and 21:00-00:30. The morning session is the heavier one because PROs front-load the daily filings. GCC nationals do not require LMRA work permits and have no business at Buhair's labour counters. A GCC national working in Bahrain is registered through GOSI/SIO using their home-country national ID and the employer files a notification rather than a permit. GCC nationals who need CPR services should head to iGA Isa Town, and for visit-visa formalities for non-GCC family members to NPRA Isa Town. Reception at Buhair will redirect any GCC visitor to the correct office without taking a token.

Yes — Buhair is the easiest LMRA branch for drivers. Free on-site parking covers most visitors and abundant street parking on the surrounding service roads handles overflow. Even at the Saturday-morning peak you will usually find a slot within two minutes. By contrast Mina Salman and Sanabis run out of parking by 09:00 weekdays. For drivers from central Manama and Seef, the BHD 4-6 taxi fare may still be cheaper than the time and fuel, but Buhair is one branch where driving is a genuine option.
